Finally Exposed: The Real Truth On The Power Of Backlinks

In SEO, people speak about this thing called backlinks. If you are a newbie to the world of Internet Marketing or just started your website for the first time, you may not understand exactly what they are or even how crucial they are if your in seek of first page ranking in Google.

There’s good services out there that help automate backlinking. Checkout UAW Discount and Article Marketing Automation Review for additional info.

If your site will start using paid advertising such as AdWords, AdBrite or Yahoo’s paid ads, then backlinks don’t apply here. So, let’s be inclined to think that you are going to be relying on decent natural rankings in Google (they are the free ones) and you have to have your site ranking in the top 10 results of Google – preferably #1 – but you don’t understand this SEO business or using backlinks and your new web business cannot afford someone doing this mysterious art for you.

In brief, a backlink is a link with anchor text (a link that can be clicked on) on a webpage somewhere else on the internet that links to your site. In its simplest crudest form, that is a backlink.

Unlike Yahoo! and Bing which certain factors on your site (though both combined they control a 4th of all traffic from the search engine market), Backlinks are used by Google (on other sites) to determine out if your site on, say, Bass fishing, should rank really high on their results from the search engine or not.

Google will see the so-called anchor text in the link (the word that’s linked) and the authority of the site that the link is coming from to figure out how highly or lowly your site should rank. And when it comes to Google organic search engine results, backlinks are pretty much all you have to influence the ranking success of your site.

What should be your next question is, how do I obtain these backlinks for my new site? Way back in the prehistoric age of the Internet, you’d have to ask other webmaster site owners and nicely ask for a link on their site and for
doing that you would give one on your site to theirs.

Nowadays, that’s impractical for many reasons. Firstly, Google doesn’t like what is calls reciprocal links where 2 or more sites link to each other so those links will have no link juice.

Secondly, link volume is what you need now to get traction in Google as most sites on Page 1 of Google will usually have a hefty volume of links (think in the hundreds and thousands) if the particular keyword or search term is worth ranking for.

There’s also many additional factors to consider like whether the links are dofollow or nofollow, the PageRank of the site the place where it comes from and having backlinks from a huge pool of web sites. Contrary to a lot of SEO advice, I have never found the relevancy of a backlink site’s topics to my site a factor to consider at all in increasing linking power but consistency of linkbuilding is extremely important.
